William Hill are an instantly recognisable brand, both to high-street shoppers around the UK and dedicated sports bettors. They prefer to give customers value on the most popular races and sporting events every day, rather than be dragged into a war with other firms to offer the best promotions.

That approach ensures their popularity with punters. They do offer enhanced each way and extra places on horse racing and sport, however. Visit the site or app on any weekend and you’ll notice at least one extra places offer. This helps William Hill stand out from the crowd and the deal is offered to both new and existing players.

Ladbrokes recently underwent major investment with cash spent improving both their mobile app and website. That has resulted in a faster, smoother and more responsive service. The firm, following a merger with Coral, also improved their promotions page and took Coral’s lead of offering enhanced places on horse racing.

They may boost this by just one place but have also been known to blow away the competition by handing out two or three extra places for big events. Please read the terms and conditions, however, as this may be paid as cash or a free bet.

EXTRA PLACES & EACH WAY BETTING

Each way betting can be applied to different sports – usually most with more than three participants – and it is an incredibly popular bet. What’s worth remembering when placing an each way bet is that you must double your original stake.

The reason for that is you are placing half the stake on a selection to win and the other half on a selection to place amongst the major places, for example 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the race. The benefits of each-way betting are you could land a return on your bet without it winning the race, especially if taking a nice price.

EXAMPLE

It is important to always look out for the extra places promotion when placing an each way bet as it gives you more chances to make a profit. You can see that from the example given below…

  • Presenting Percy – Cheltenham Gold Cup
  • £5 each way
  • Stake £10
  • Each way terms of ¼ the odds a place 1-2-3
  • Enhanced each way terms of ¼ the odds a place 1-2-3-4

If Presenting Percy wins the race you will be paid out on the win bet as well as the each way bet. If he only places, the win section will be settled as a loser and the each way section paid out at ¼ of the odds taken.

Where it gets interesting is if Presenting Percy was to finish fourth in the race. With most firms you’d lose your entire stake but if taking the enhanced each way which paid out on four places you bag the each way part of your bet and, therefore, claim a return.

WHICH BOOKIES ARE PAYING 5 PLACES?

In the biggest and best horse racing events of the year, both in the national hunt and flat seasons, you will come across certain races that are far more popular than most on the schedule. These include the Cheltenham Gold Cup and Grand National, although there are many more.

In such events, with a big field in attendance and competitive betting market attached, you will see certain leading betting apps offer enhanced each way of up to five places. Of course, this depends on the number of runners in the starting pack. Over 16 and most bookies will give customers ¼ the odds four places.

Does William Hill pay 5th place? Are Ladbrokes paying 5 places? Are Betfred paying 5 places? Let’s find out. The ones below have been known to push that to ¼ the odds five places…

  • Ladbrokes
  • William Hill
  • Betfred
  • Coral
  • Betfair
  • Paddy Power
  • Betfred

As with any promotion made by a sports betting firm, there are terms and conditions attached to this deal. We would always advise reading these in full before parting with your hard-earned cash. This will ensure you have a full understanding of how the promo works before getting involved. One of the most important points in the T&Cs is that the fifth place may be taken away as a result of a non-runner or withdrawal. If this is the case, your bet will refer to the standard four places. You should also look out for a promo called bet365 Each Way Extra. There’s also extra place matched betting which is popular.

EXTRA PLACES OFFER TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • Qualifying odds refers to the minimum odds a selection must be to qualify for the promotion. This is usually set at 1/2, although read your betting firm’s T&Cs to make sure.
  • Time is important as most extra place offers only run after a certain point. This could be 12pm on the day of the race or 6pm the evening before. If you bey outside of this time you won’t benefit from the promo.
  • Number of starters is important to keep an eye on. There must be at least the minimum number of runners going to post for the enhanced place terms deal to take effect.
  • When the bet was placed often means you must have made your gamble after the final declarations stage as antepost bets don’t count in the extra places offer.
  • Other restrictions may include the total stake you can place each way and the extra places can’t be used alongside another promotion, such as best odds guaranteed or faller’s insurance. Again, check the terms and conditions.
